It has become a popular visitor destination and town has a strong agricultural tradition, home to one of the largest agricultural markets in Scotland. The town sits on the national William Wallace trail as the place where the story began through his love for his wife. Lanark Museum, which houses a collection of items which illustrate the history of the town, is housed in the YMCA building.
